Shawn Tydlaska, CFP®, MBA
BLX Co-Founder, Board Member
Shawn is the founder and CEO of Ballast Point Financial Planning, a fee-only firm based out of the Bay Area.
Shawn earned his BA from UCLA in 2004 and began working in the broader financial services industry. Wanting to make a direct impact on people’s lives, he studied for and earned the CFP® marks in 2010. He began his financial planning career working for a high-net-worth firm in San Diego where the account minimum was $2M. In order to serve clients that were more in his peer group with a new service model, Shawn decided to pursue his MBA from the University of Michigan - Ross School of Business and ultimately launched Ballast Point in 2016.
Chloe Moore, CFP®
BLX Co-Founder, Board Member
Chloe is the Founder of Financial Staples, a fee-only firm based in Atlanta, GA and serving clients nationwide. As a woman of color in the financial services industry, Chloe understands the unique challenges and opportunities that come with being the only one in the room that looks like her. She launched her firm to address the needs of underrepresented and underserved populations in tech (women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community). In addition to helping her clients grow financially, Chloe helps them gain clarity around their ideal life, build a network of professionals who can work together to help them achieve their goals, and point them to resources that can help further their careers.
In addition to promoting financial literacy through volunteer efforts, Chloe also focuses on the cultivation of female and minority financial planners. Chloe has been recognized as one of Investment News Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2017, Financial Advisor Magazine’s 10 Young Advisors to Watch in 2021, and Investopedia’s 100 Most Influential Financial Advisors in 2020 and 2021.
Luis Rosa, CFP®, EA
BLX Co-Founder, Board Member
Luis is the founder of Build a Better Financial Future LLC, a fee-only firm based out of Los Angels and is the host of the On My Way to Wealth podcast.
Luis came to the U.S. at age 11 from the Dominican Republic. Growing up in New York City, he noticed the lack of financial literacy in his community and was inspired by his parents to work hard and pursue an education.
Luis was named one of Investment News Magazine’s 40 Under 40 in 2019, Financial Advisor Magazine’s 10 Young Advisors to Watch, and Investopedia’s Top 100 Financial Advisors in 2020. From participating as an FPA NexGen Ambassador & Host, to speaking at the CFP Board’s Diversity Summit, Luis uses his platform to help spread financial literacy as well as encourage younger and diverse planners to join and thrive in the industry.
Uziel Gomez CFP®
Intern Coordinator
As a first-generation college graduate, Uziel Gomez obtained his bachelor's degree in Finance with a focus on Financial Planning from California State University, Northridge. During his college career, he participated in a variety of internships that led him to discover the fee-only side of financial planning and he was hooked.
Through financial planning, Uziel strives to serve as an intermediary by connecting people's finances with their dreams and aspirations. He loves learning about people's unique backgrounds and circumstances and how they developed their money blueprint.
Uziel currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. In his spare time, Uziel enjoys trying out new food dishes in the greater LA area. You will find Uziel traveling, boxing, and spending time with family.
Leisha Barton
Program Coordinator
Leisha graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Leisha has broad experience in several sectors, including hospitality, accounting, and financial assistance counseling. As a woman of Latin descent, she has a passion for promoting diversity and inclusion in the financial planning profession. Originally from Utah, Leisha enjoys discovering trails on her RZR, skiing, and spending time with her family.
Emlen Miles-Mattingly
BLX Co-Founder, Board Member Emeritus
Emlen is the CEO and founder of the fee-only firm Gen Next Wealth and a co-founder of the ONYX Advisor Network. With nearly 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, he decided to leave the large corporate environment and start his own independent firm. It is his passion to keep his clients best interest in mind when making recommendations. As the host of the Say Hello To Retirement podcast, Emlen discusses finance, family, fitness/health, and education and how all of these things affect your overall wealth.
Emlen was born and raised in the small town of Madera, CA. This is also where his firm is located. He is married to Maricela and they have 4 children, Jada, Mia, Emlen II, and Ecella.
